Is the “Great Resignation” working out?
The year 2019 started bright and great for all, until china first discovered the “COVID-19” later that year. People across the world really thought it is just another virus, but what actually happened is nothing but bleak. Lots of companies shut-downed, markets down, etc. however, In my perception this is the inception of “work from home” culture in many company.
People then really though working from home is relatively easier, cost effective, work life balance, and so on.. In-fact companies also started adhering to it. The culture work from home brought a change in employees perception towards life and work. This is the mark/start of the “Great Resignation Period”
People started switching the company not just for better work life balance but also for better perks. The thought which cultivated inside the people’s mind are,
Positive Sides..
-
- Anyways we work from home
- Company A or Company B we sit in same place and work
- Traveling to company once or twice in a week is not a problem
- People who travelled 40 to 50kms to work had their dream time
Negative Sides..
-
- I may have to work longer hours as i am working from home
- I wont get recognized like earlier in my company
- My pay might get reduced
- My entertainment is getting limitted
- Social collaboration is limitted
and so on.. But the real fact is employers are also getting adhering towards this change, some of them are going above and beyond with technologies for the working environment and changing their work culture to a greater deal.. Kudos to them!!
Coming back to the million dollar question – Is “The great Resignation” working out? Well to understand this we need to take into consideration the above points. My perception towards this is 50/50, my 2 cents on it,
-
- Employees not just leave their job, but they leave their trustworthy customers as well
- Once employee’s vacant spot is another employee’s hot spot (its not easier to create the same relationship with customer and company)
- The left out projects are accumulating for the joining employee to complete (Let me tell you its not easy!!)
- Only few company tries to retain their best employees, again the choice is with the employee..
- According the statistics,
- The resignations are higher with the mid-level employees
- Only the real tech people were able to change not all, Interviewers are keen on it
- Companies are identifying a better retention programs
I believe the “The Great Resignation” is slowing down as people are understanding the real facts of life.. “Whatever has to happen will happen, Life has to go on!!”
